Dialogue-to-Action
Be a part of the Dialogue-to-Action team if you are excited about continuing the Dialogue-to-Action process, live, work, or play in the Hilltop, want to make a difference, are tired of crime on the Hilltop, are a Zone 3 or Mt. Oliver police officer, are a parent of Hilltop children, a Hilltop youth, or want to see the community and the police work together to make our streets safe.

The Dialogue-to-Action team is planning the second round of Dialogues.  In the first round, approximately 60 citizens in 6 dialogue circles discussed how to build a better Hilltop and decided on action teams to create a Hilltop One-Stop-Shop, repurpose vacant properties, and plan Dialogue-to-Action, round two.  Everyone's voice and efforts are important to creating positive change on the Hilltop.  A small group of traditional leaders is neither an effective nor representative body.  In short, we need you!  Dialogue-to-Action is an effective way to have your voice heard and it looks like this:

The second round of dialogues will focus on public safety by encouraging police and community members to work together to be involved in the community and fight crime.
The planning team meets the last Thursday of every month from 6-8 at the Adult Probation Building in Arlington.  All are welcome to attend.

Join one of the Hilltop Alliance's three action teams.  These are teams made up of citizens and business owners just like you who are working to make our Hilltop a better place to live, work, and play.  The action teams are as follows:

One-Stop-Shop Action Team (service coordination)

Meetings: Last Wednesday of each month at 6pm.

The One-Stop-Shop Action Team is working hard to update the social services list for the Hilltop.  This will include both large and grassroots organizations and will cover everything from family support to community recreation opportunities.  It will be available to residents online and at all public locations including libraries, senior centers, and rec centers.

Re-Purposing Vacant Properties Action Team

Meetings: Third Tuesday of each month at 6pm at the Mt. Oliver Borough Building.

The Re-Purposing Vacant Properties team has been approved for three proposals.  One will be to landscape the "gateway lot" at the corner of Mountain St. and Wagner Ave.  The group is looking for volunteers to help in the last week of September.  The second proposal is to have vacant land tested on Beltzhoover Avenue to see if it could be used for a community garden.  A plan and landscape map will also be generated.  If you are interested in being involved in the community garden, please contact us.  The final proposal is to send people to the Reclaiming Vacant Properties Conference in October.

Public Safety Task Force

Meetings: Second Tuesday of every Month at 6pm.

The Public Safety Task Force is working on two iniatives.  The first is to bring police and youth together by bringing the Jr. Police Academy to the Hilltop and offer the program exclusively to Hilltop youth.  In this program they work next to police and learn why it is important for citizen's to be the eyes and ears of the force.  The second is to expand on Block Club membership and help new block clubs to form in the Hilltop.  If you are interested in starting or joining a block club, please contact us.

We are looking for new members for each of these three action teams.  They are all flexible and you can volunteer as little or as much of your time as you like.  Contact us for more in formation.

The Dialogue-to-Action team had a great turnout at the last meeting on January 28th, 2010.  Representation from both Pittsburgh City Zone 3 Police and the Mt.

Oliver Police Department were present.

At the meeting we decided to form four sub-committees.

  • Communications and Outreach
  • Dialogue Guide
  • Event Planning and Logistics
  • Facilitator Recruitment and Training
We need your help in these areas to make this a success.  Also, we are looking for facilitators to be a part of the process.  This provides valuable experience and training for any professional.

The group will be meeting as a large group once a month in the last week of every month.  To participate in the next meeting, please indicate your availability using this link
